YUMI AND THE WEATHER GIG ON FRI 13TH AUG

Yumi and the Weather headline the Scared To Dance and For The Rabbits monthly gig night on Friday 13th August.

Support comes from nudista at The Victoria and you can get your free tickets at DICE.

Our headliners are Yumi and the Weather, the musical pseudonym of Brighton-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ruby Taylor. The project first burst onto the scene back in 2013 with the acclaimed debut EP, All We Can. The subsequent eight years have seen Yumi head out on tour with British Sea Power, perform at a number of festivals and gather heavy radio support from a wide variety of outlets including BBC 6 Music and Radio X. Last year saw the release of her fantastic self-produced EP, Some Days, released via Small Pond Records.

Some Days was something of a sonic departure for Yumi and the Weather, incorporating elements of ethereal 80s synth-rock, 60s soul, and New Romantic pop, weaving Ruby’s influences into a bold vision of exactly what she wanted her music could be. Citing inspiration from artists as diverse as Alvvays, Bruce Springsteen and A-ha, Some Days was the sound of Rose facing up to a pandemic and a wave of political unrest and hitting back with the power of creativity. A compelling snapshot of the world it was made in, that remains just as relevant and exciting in the here and now.

Based out of London, nudista are the duo of Spanish-born vocalist Pilar Matji Cabello and guitarist Robbie Carman. Bonding over a shared love of Yo La Tengo, Phoebe Bridgers and Neil Young the pair formed nudista. Freshly signed to Sad Club Records, the band recently shared their new single, “Confess”, which blurred the lines between the dreaminess of Mazzy Star and the urgency of Alvvays. With the track catching the ear of the likes of Clash and God Is In TV, nudista are a band on the rise.
