Thanks for Saturday

A big thank you to everyone who came down on Saturday night. It was one of our best ever nights! Standard Fare were excellent guest DJs and we’ll have them back at the club next year.

For those of you who asked which film we were projecting, it was Vivre sa vie by Godard. Check it out, it’s brilliant.

We’re back on Saturday 10th September at our new home The Albany when 6 Music’s Gideon Coe will be DJing for us. You can RSVP on Facebook and send in your requests.

Remember to get your tickets for our gig on Wednesday 14th September when we’ll be welcoming back Standard Fare to London! Support comes from Red Shoe Diaries and Evans the Death. You can grab your tickets now from WeGotTickets. Be quick as they’re sure to go fast!

Scared To Dance on Saturday – send in your requests

I feel like dancing on my own, where no one knows me and where I can cause offence just by the way I look

Which can only mean one thing… Scared To Dance returns to King’s Cross Social Club on Saturday night! What would you like to hear? Post your requests on Facebook.

Doors open at 9pm when I’ll be playing Felt’s classic album Forever Breathes the Lonely Word in its entirety to mark its 25th anniversary. It would be great to see a few more people down early as it can often be one of my favourite parts of the night seeing everyone catching up since our last night!

We’ll be giving out free mix CDs to the first 25 people through the door. This will be our third compilation and it’s a mix I’ve put together consisting of the best of 2011 so far featuring the likes of Veronica Falls, The Wave Pictures, Acid House Kings and Butcher Boy.

Standard Fare will be DJing from 10:30pm and then myself from midnight. I’m super excited about seeing Pulp this time next week so I’ll be playing a few songs by them throughout the night. Something from His ‘N’ Hers maybe? This Is Hardcore or the Scott Walker produced We Love Life? Or how about some early Pulp or the decade defining Different Class? Send in your Pulp requests!

You can get into the club for just £3 by applying for membership. Simply email us at admin@scaredtodance.co.uk before 5pm on Saturday. We’ve got a few copies of our Spring and Indietracks fanzines left which will be available as well as our brand new badges thanks to the folks at Thee SPC.

Scared To Dance proudly presents Standard Fare

I’m am absolutely delighted to announce the debut Scared To Dance gig. Standard Fare, Red Shoe Diaries and Evans the Death play the Lexington on Wednesday 14th September.

Standard Fare had a great 2010 that saw the release of their critically acclaimed debut album The Noyelle Beat, festival appearances at Latitude, Indietracks, In the City and SWN and two US tours, including playing at SXSW. Hot on the heels of releasing the poptastic single “Suitcase” on Thee SPC, we’re thrilled to have the Sheffield indiepoppers headline our premiere show.

Red Shoe Diaries are five friends from Nottingham who write pop songs for messed-up grown-ups. The band have built a reputation from playing with the likes of The Wave Pictures, Ballboy, Allo Darlin’ as well as numerous BBC radio sessions. One previous self-released EP has received much praise. Check out the outstanding When I Find My Heart… EP out now on Fika Recordings.

Evans the Death make frenetic and infectious punk pop which exudes the kind of unbridled charisma, intelligence, and runaway energy that promises a singularly exciting future for the band. With their compellingly unhinged and hyper-intelligent pop the band look set to blaze a trail through 2011 and beyond. The double A-sided single “Threads”/”I’m So Unclean” on Fortuna Pop! is a must have.

Head on over to our new gigs section for more details and find out more on Facebook.
