Benedict Benjamin has been drawing admirers since back in 2016 when he released the excellent debut album Night Songs. After the release of his 2019 offering Truant, like so many musicians Benedict found himself at home, writing and recording while, “listening to a lot of Serge Gainsbourg and Elliot Smith”, and deprived of any collaborators. The result is his new album Tunnel, a record crafted by sampling drum solos from old jazz records, it finds Benedict diving into the corners of his creativity and coming up with his most ambitious, creative and exciting record to date.
With songs exploring parental burnout, anxiety, love and care, Tunnel may be born in the darkness, but it always finds a way to crawl and scramble its way back to the light, “carrying on, still finding the strength left to smile”. A record that explores everything from psychedelic post-punk to open-hearted folk and downbeat electronica, in facing his struggles head on Benedict Benjamin has never made music that sounds so effortlessly wonderful.
Naomi in Blue is the project of Naomi Larsson Piñeda, a singer-songwriter and journalist based in London. In 2021, she emerged with An Experiment, an EP of psychedelic Americana, a musical journey taking international influences, owing as much to the Californian coast and Chilean countryside as it does her home in urban England. Bringing her full band to the stage, expect an intriguing and ambitious performance, all presented in Naomi’s own unmistakable shade of blue.
